Words of kindness are works of kindness, and since they cost so little and are worth so much, we should strew them plentifully all along life's way. ~Modern Proverbs
But, I will skip the list of entirely mundane things I have to do today in order to get ready for the familyChristmas Eve bash at my house. Suffice it to say it involves all that last minute dusting, mopping, and dish-washing. Bah, humbug!
I will share a new poem with you (not that I go to Grandma's house anymore. She passed away a few years ago)
Oh, the Weather Outside Is Stormy
Ready for Christmas once more--despite river, wind and snow it's off to Grandma's house-- let's go!
According to the weatherman, we just might have a white christmas here. Well, not here, exactly, but for those who live at an elevation of 500 feet or so. We are at about 150 feet. posted by deborah

It wasn't too bad
The day I went to the Post Office wasn't too bad. I stood in line approximately six minutes.
A few years ago I read a little blurb that said for each of us standing in line uses up seven years of our life. That is something I always think about when I am in a line at the PO, bank, Walmart, movie theatre. Wherever.
Though when I am in an especially long line I think the wait adds up to more than seven years, more like ten maybe. posted by deborah

What's On your 'New Year's Resolutions' list Right Now? Eww, yuck. I haven't even thought about resolutions yet. Hmmm? Perhaps more creative writing, especially short stories. Of course, losing weight is always on the list (never seems to get done). Keeping the house clean and uncluttered is a big one, especially since I have it spit-spot for the Christmas Eve do. posted by deborah

And so...
I must say farewell as I leave my fortress to brave the busiest mailing day of the year. posted by deborah

Because the list was so long and I didn't recognize a lot of the names, I whittled it down to the names I did know.
Antonio Banderas--Spy Kids. Haven't seen SK3 yet. Orlando Bloom--Nice ears. Will see Return of the King the Saturday after Christmas. George Clooney--It should be against the law for a man to be that good-looking. Must rent Solaris soon. Russell Crowe--Master and Commander! Tom Cruise--Older and sexier. Johnny Depp--Must rent Pirates...soon. Vin Diesel--Too macho David Duchovny--Not into Xfiles Harrison Ford--I do miss Han Solo Mel Gibson--I haven't actually watched any of his movies. Oh, wait, I did see Conspiracy Theory. Jeff Goldblum--Always like this guy in any movie. Hugh Grant--Seen one movie, seen them all Robson Green--First saw him on PBS Mystery. Tom Hanks-tremedous actor Anthony Hopkins--great as the elder Zorro Tobey Maguire--a cute Peter Parker Viggo Mortensen--Can't wait to see ...theKing Liam Neeson--Dead Jedi Clive Owen--Again, first encountered on PBS Mystery Brad Pitt--Don't see what is so great with this guy. Keanu Reeves--Dittos Omar Sharif--Classic Gary Sinise--Liked Mission to Mars Sylvester Stallone--My sister things he's sexy Patrick Stewart--Great Scrooge (which we watched last night) Mark Wahlberg--Apey Bruce Willis--Bald Elijah Wood--I had my doubts, but he does Frodo well.
At least until yesterday when I realized that the majority of my Christmas shopping was done at Walmart and then the children and I had lunch at McDonalds. That is a typically American activity, I think. posted by deborah

As you may know, I belong to several amateur press associations, which are basically writing clubs for which you publish your own journal (or newsletter or 'zine).
The United Amateur Press Association has quarterly awards to honor excellence in writing, publishing, art, etc. For the first quarter awards (Aug/Sept/Oct) I received recognition in a couple of categories: Honorable Mention in "Art" for the October issue of my journal Deborah's Doodles, First Place in "Fiction" for my short, short story "Changing the Rules" in issue #5 of my journal Dry Bones as well as an HM for "Misc. Prose in that same issue. Issue # 5 also received a First Place in the category "Publishing."
It was a good first quarter! posted by deborah

Wild . . . suggested, "Animal in the jungle, an overgrown garden. Funky, crazy, not conforming to the accepted norms...a person, a street sign, a dance..." As always, these are just suggestions. Show what the theme means to you.
Dreams are sometimes wild, sometimes silly, and sometimes just bizarre! Sometimes I am aware I am dreaming, sometimes not. Sometimes I can connect the dream images to things that have gone on in the "real" world, but most often I cannot. Many of my dreams include loved ones that have passed on. In those dreams the loved ones are always happily met. I like those dreams the best. posted by deborah

What's On your 'favorite things to do' list Right Now? 1) Watching decorating shows on HGTV. My favorites: Design On a Dime, Country Style, Devine Design, Designing for the Sexes. 2) Garage sale-ing and/or going to my favorite thrift store (which by the way had a three-day-half-price sale after Thanksgiving. Needless to say, I bought oodles of stuff). 3) Spending time with my husband who is not currently living with me (but that is a long story). 4) Spending time with my best friend Pauline and with my mom. 5) Taking my afternoon nap! posted by deborah

Book Meme
Even though I haven't been doing much reading lately, I do love books. I liked this challenge that I found on Betty's blog. As Betty says, "The idea is that you take a list of authors from whoever you're snurching the meme from, remove the ones that aren't present on your bookshelves, and replace them with ones that are."
Betty's List:
Christopher Moore Ursula K. Le Guin Michael Chabon Neil Gaiman Mark Twain Philip Pullman George R.R. Martin Octavia Butler William Shakespeare Neal Stephenson
My List:
Brian Jacques Anne McCaffrey Nancy Kress A.A. Milne A.C. Crispin Beatrix Potter William J. Bennett Marvin L. Lubenow Michael Denton Simon Singh
